Melannie Cunningham, MA (current PhD candidate)

(she, her, hers)

CONSULTANT

I am a Black Woman. From a young age, I became aware of the disadvantages of my black skin and understood that I would need to forge my own path to succeed. Growing up as a child of an Army officer, I had the opportunity to live in various places such as Germany, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and Washington State. This upbringing instilled in me the ability to adapt easily to new environments, as I often was the new kid in school. I consider myself a “multipotentialite,” someone skilled in multiple areas.

I work full-time as the Director of Anti-Racist Leadership Education at a private Lutheran college in the Pacific Northwest. I am also actively setting up my post-retirement life in Ghana. I have purchased land and establishing a farming operation to grow and export chili peppers.

In 2018, I was honored as my community's “Peace Laureate” and received the opportunity to attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway. I documented this experience in a 30-minute documentary titled “Peace Queen,” which recently received a regional Emmy® Award.

I am a Ph.D. candidate at Fielding Graduate University, researching the motivations behind wealthy white people investing in Black American communities. You will find me on the golf course or at a spa somewhere when I'm out practicing self-care.
